About Us

St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral

If you are visiting our site, I hope that this note finds you well.
St. Mark's is a Cathedral parish in the Episcopal and Anglican tradition.  We are believers in the life, ministry, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  We believe that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is a particular message from God, and that the Gospel contains both a medicine and a message giving depth and meaning to human life.  The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the power of God's grace for the means of our salvation.
We experience the power and presence of Christ in the midst of our worship.  Our worship is shaped by the Prayer Book tradtions of England and America, and our music is derived from the classical Western tradtion of Christian hymnody and composition.  Essentially, we worship in a traditional "style."
We experience the power and presence of Christ in seeking to serve our fellow human beings.  You will find avenues into the Shreveport and Bossier communities where St. Mark's members seek to be the hands and feet of our Lord.  Perhaps this is a calling in your own life?
We experience the transformative power of Christ in the midst of prayer, study, and spiritual formation.  At St. Mark's we have a number of avenues through which families and individuals encounter the Word of God, pray together, and discern the movement of the Holy Spirit in our lives.  Through classes, retreats, and speaker's series, there is an opportunity move more deeply into a life of faith.
There is so much more that we would like to share with you.  Perhaps you will visit us in the coming weeks on a Sunday?  I hope that you do, and that you will make yourself known to us in a way that is comfortable for you.
It is a blessing for us that you are visiting our web site.
Blessings and Godspeed,
The Very Reverend Alston Johnson
St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral

The Cathedral is at the corner of Kings Highway and Fairfield Avenue.

There are two main lots. The largest lot is on the south side of the church facing Kings Highway. On the north side is a smaller lot in front of St. Mark’s Cathedral School. Both parking lots are accessed from Fairfield Avenue.

When our lots are full, some find it convenient to park on Thornhill directly behind the church or in the business lots on the other side of Fairfield.

Entering the Church

Very few people take the long stairs at the front of the church and come in through the front door.

There is a clearly visible portico with a side entrance from the south lot next to Kings Highway. If you park in the school lot, you will see another side entrance close to Fairfield. Follow the steps up either entrance and you be in the back of the church.

Welcome Table

A table with Greeters is located just inside the church at the south entrance. Please drop by and let us help you feel at home and answer any questions you may have.

The Worship Service

Ushers hand out worship bulletins at the back of the church.

The worship bulletin has everything you need to follow the order of service except for the hymns. The bulletin gives you the hymn numbers and you can find those hymns in the blue hymnal in the pew rack.

Our service is called the Holy Eucharist. All baptized persons are welcome and encouraged to receive Communion.

Children during Worship

We have a Nursery with separate sections dedicated to infants and toddlers who are not potty trained.

Once children are potty trained they may attend Catechesis of the Good Shepherd in the Ministry Center or Children’s Chapel in the Church Library.

Children in grades pre-K - 1st will go straight the Ministry Center and join the group that has already begun activities during the Children's Formation time beforehand

Children in grades 2nd-5th go straight to Children’s Cathedral before the service begins.

Both groups of children return during the passing of the peace.

We have a very active children’s ministry. The bottom line: we love kids at St. Mark’s!

Handicap Accessibility

There are entrances on both the north and south side of the Cathedral towards the front of the church can be used by those needing assistance. The entrance on the north side of the building is near the base of the bell tower beneath a large stain glass window.  The entrance on the south side of the building is clearly marked at the front of the church and there are sidewalk curb out's at both entrances for ease of access.

Restrooms are conveniently located in the back of the church.

We look forward to seeing you at our services! Please do not hesitate to ask the greeters or ushers for any assistance or directions you need.
